In 2016 I did my internship at Lloyd Hotel as I studied Hotel School. Since the beginning of this year I am officially working at the Front Office. I am 21 years old and I live here, in the beautiful Amsterdam East close by the Lloyd. When I am not working at the reception I love to stroll around East, having coffee breaks and exploring new places to shop. I summed up my favorite shopping areas for you.
#1 Czaar Peterstraat, Amsterdam East
This street is absolutely one of the nicest shopping streets in Amsterdam East. A lovely street with many extraordinary and unique shops. Do you want to find something special? Well, this is the place to be! Besides shopping you can also go for drinks or for a bite to eat. Fun fact: the Duch movie ‘Ciske de Rat’ was shot here.
#2 Oosterpoort, Amsterdam East
Oosterpoort is an 18.500 m2 big shopping mall with an underground parking garage that has 875 spots There are more than 200 different shops to be found, it is almost impossible not to succeed here. Sometimes when I don’t feel like wandering around the small streets, it’s is nice to find everything in one place.
#3 Linnaeusstraat, Amsterdam East
Definitely a underestimated part of Amsterdam East. Back in the days this street was occupied by big mainstream shops, but for a number of years now, there are many small boutiques and cosy coffee bars situated here. Small shops with beautiful stuff. It is a great combination of shops we all need sometimes, like the HEMA, and vintage clothing shops where you can browse around during rainy days.
#4 9 streets, Amsterdam Centrum
You don’t feel like going to the mega shops in the famous shopping streets, so you are in search of small, original and exclusive shops. In the 9 streets, a beautiful part of Amsterdam city centre in the middle of canal belt, you will find just that. Practically every tram or bus in the city center of Amsterdam comes close there. While browsing through the beautiful shop windows, you walk around in one of the most characteristic neighbourhoods of Amsterdam. Beautiful buildings embrace you during your shop-walk.
#5 Amsterdam Centrum
Shopping in Amsterdam is perfectly possible in the city centre. From Central Station you can walk straight into the Nieuwendijk, which is the oldest shopping street in the city. Here you’ll find larger chains such as Bershka and H&M, but also smaller shops. If you walk all the way down this street you will arrive at Dam Square, where you will find the Bijenkorf. This is known for its luxury brands, stylish products and design. If this exceeds your budget a little, walk into the Kalverstraat. Every day about 50,000 visitors come here to the many large chains such as Urban Outfitters and Forever 21.
